How BeerPal keeps your data

Current pilot · Updated 25 September 2026

During this small pilot, we keep your scan photos while your account is active so you can revisit scans, export your data and help us investigate identification problems. We are not automatically deleting photos after a set number of days.

Images used in reviewed reference samples or catalogue review stay while those references exist, including retired samples. Reference review is separate from research participation. Confirmed deletion of the owning account removes its photos and associated references.

Your choices

You can export your account or request confirmed account deletion in Settings. Optional email starts off. If you ask for a getting-started guide, we record your choice, when and where you made it, the notice shown, and the delivery outcome. These records are included in your account export and removed with your account. We cancel pending guide delivery when you unsubscribe, change your email address or confirm account deletion. An email already handed to the provider cannot be recalled.

Recovery copies

Restricted provider backups and a private recovery archive may contain older account data. Deleting an account does not immediately erase every historical recovery copy. We do not use these copies as a mailing list or research dataset. Before returning a restored system to service, we must reconcile deletions made since the backup.

We will review retention periods, recovery-copy disposal and reference-use notices before wider onboarding or enabling automatic photo expiry. A provider restore rehearsal remains outstanding.
